Zimbabwe’s leading opposition party, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has strongly criticized a false letter being shared on social media. This letter wrongly claims to be from Songezo Tshabangu, a former political activist who is not a current member of CCC. The fake letter says it is recalling CCC’s legislators and councillors.
CCC says that this letter is part of a political trick. They believe Tshabangu and his group, known as Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ), are behind it. FAZ is thought to have connections with the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO). CCC thinks this plan is to create trouble and weaken their party.
This issue follows CCC’s decision not to attend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s speech to the nation in parliament. The party says this decision upset Mnangagwa’s government.
Gift Ostallos Siziba, a spokesperson for CCC, explained that the letters on social media are fake. They supposedly come from someone claiming to be an interim Secretary-General. Siziba stated, “Members of the public should ignore these letters. They are not true. CCC has not and will not recall any of its recently chosen members. Sengezo Tshabangu, the supposed writer of these letters, has never been part of CCC. His last links were with MDC-T and PDP. He is known for causing confusion by using fake CCC candidates in past elections.”
Siziba added that CCC is taking steps against Tshabangu and his associates. He described this act as a weak attempt by the ruling party, Zanu PF, to respond to their losses in the 2023 elections and the public’s rejection. Siziba urged CCC’s representatives in local authorities and parliament to keep doing their jobs as the voters have asked them to.
CCC has always been clear about supporting its officials and fighting against any efforts to disrupt its work. They have not yet heard from Songezo Tshabangu about these claims.
CCC is calling on everyone in Zimbabwe to be careful and not be fooled by false news. They believe these lies are meant to interfere with their work and make people doubt them.
As Zimbabwe’s political situation changes, CCC keeps speaking out and pushing for different leaders. They want to be a voice for change and represent the people’s needs.
In conclusion, CCC’s firm response to the fake letter shows their dedication to their officials and their readiness to face any challenges. As the political events in Zimbabwe unfold, CCC continues to be a strong opposition group, committed to bringing change and standing up for the people.
